Nowaday, there are many foreigners coming to Vietnam to travel, reside or work,… but in order to be able to reside in Vietnam, foreigners must have a temporary residence card prescribed by Vietnamese law.

What is a temporary residence card in Vietnam?
A Temporary Residence Card (TRC) can be described as an essential document for expats, who intend to reside in Vietnam, for a specified period. Indeed, traditional visas remain temporary (one month for the tourist visa and three months for the business visa), so being granted a residence card to stay on Vietnamese soil for up to two years without having to leave the country can make the stay of many expatriates easier. Moreover, based on a specific case, this document can be allotted for a different period and may as well call for additional papers.
According to the Law on Entry, Exit, Transit, and Residence of Foreigners in Vietnam 2014, temporary residence card is a document issued by an immigration authority or a competent authority of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, granted to foreigners who are allowed to reside for a certain period of time in Vietnam.
Benefits of Holding a Vietnam Temporary Residence Card
Vietnam temporary residence card, or Vietnam TRC, is a card issued for foreigners by the Vietnam Immigration Department, allowing them to reside in the country for a certain period of time up to 2 or 3 years. It can be also seen as a long term Vietnam visa that every expat wants to own one.
Benefits of holding a Vietnam TRC are clearly shown as below:
– Holding a temporary residence card in Vietnam gives foreigners more chances to buy apartments or houses in the near future;
– A temporary residence card for Vietnam can be considered as a Vietnam visa with a longer time so foreigners can stay in the country without extending or renewing their visa as long as their Vietnam TRC is valid, leading to time and cost-saving advantages;
– The TRC can be very useful when foreigners carry out business procedures or get married to Vietnamese citizens, etc. without hassle.
